Smart contracts & web2 APIs can now form cone-nections thanks to Gelato's Web3 Functions & @polybase_xyz ! The previous inability to connect smart contracts with web2 APIs created huge barriers to the integration of crucial off-chain resources- but Gelato's Web3 Functions have emerged as a solution! These stateless scripts can retain data across runs using a key-value store which allows for seamless collaboration between Web3 Functions. Think of this as being like two chefs sharing ingredients in a kitchen. For instance, consider a lottery system where users join, winners are updated, and the last winner is fetched. In this scenario, Gelato's 'readlogs' function retrieves the participants and updates Polybase, while the 'lottery' Web3 Function selects a random winner and updates the contract. Ever tried your hand at creating your own smart contract? It's no secret that making it perform a specific task automatically based on a particular condition, like selling when the price of $ETH goes up, can be a challenge. Usually, you'd have to take the "BYOB" (Build Your Own Bot) route, which means keeping an eye on on-chain activities and manually sending transactions. Not only does this eat up a lot of your time and developer resources, but it also distracts you from perfecting your smart contract. There's a stark difference between the different kinds of zero-knowledge proofs, so let's explore zkStarks! zkSTARKs (Zero-Knowledge Scalable Transparent Argument of Knowledge) is a newer version of a security method called zkSNARK. zkSTARKs are better because they don't need to rely on trusting certain people to work. Instead, they use publicly available randomness to set things up and make sure everything is correct when they're used. This makes zkSTARKs more open and trustworthy. Imagine you have a computer system like a blockchain. With STARKs, you can do complex calculations outside of the main system, done by a special prover. Later, the main system just checks if everything is okay using a verifier. This helps systems like L2s processes transactions faster and cheaper. It's like doing a bunch of tasks together to save time and money when dealing with the main system. zkSTARKs have two major advantages: 1⃣ Scalability zkSTARKs can handle very large computations with minimal overhead, and do not require a trusted setup phase, 2⃣ Transparency zkSTARKs are more transparent because they use a way of generating important information that anyone can verify, instead of relying on a group of people to generate it together.

In interactive ZK proofs, the prover and verifier talk to confirm what the prover knows without revealing extra info about the secret. For it to be effective, it must satisfy these criteria: 1. Completeness: When both the prover and verifier are honest, and the input is valid, the ZK protocol should always result in a "true" outcome. 2. Soundness: If the input isn't valid, a dishonest prover shouldn't trick the ZK protocol into a "true" outcome. 3. Zero Knowledge: The verifier learns nothing about a statement apart from whether it's true.

Getting snarky with security! Let's unlock the mystery of zkSNARKs🗝️🔒 Think of zkSNARKS as truth's secret keepers, proving facts without revealing more than the truth itself. zkSNARKs cover 4⃣ key components, let’s discuss them with the following example: Alice wants to prove to Bob that she knows the square root of 16 without revealing the actual square root. Alice turns the problem into a math equation: x^2 - 16 = 0. This equation is only correct if Alice has the right answer for x, which is 4 (the square root of 16). Bob picks a secret, and names it 's', and Alice proves that the equation works for 's' without telling what x is. This makes things simpler and needs less info to check. Alice and Bob have a secret code (encryption) that lets them solve the problem without saying what x is. They can do math with hidden numbers, so Alice can show Bob that the equation is right using their secret code. Alice makes the numbers secret by multiplying them with random ones. This stops Bob from knowing the real square root, but he can still check if the first equation is right. zkSNARKS also have a special starting step to make secret keys for the system to work. In the example, Alice and Bob make rules for their game. They ask trusted friends to help and create secret codes. These codes let Alice show Bob she knows the square root without saying it. This process includes several people giving bits of info to create parameters, so no one knows everything. But if this setup is at risk, the whole system could be too. Let's dive into each piece: Zero Knowledge lets the prover prove a fact is true to the verifier without sharing extra details. 1⃣ Succinct means the proof is brief and the verifier can check it swiftly. 2⃣ Non-Interactive means the prover and verifier interact just once to prove the statement. 3⃣Argument, The prover creates a zkSNARK proof to show they know a statement, meeting the soundness rule. This blocks attackers from making fake proof that the verifier thinks is real. 4⃣ (Of) Knowledge, the prover persuades the verifier they hold secret info without saying what. The prover makes proof only with secret access.

For them to execute their predefined operations, an external entity needs to send a transaction their way. Automation is widespread in modern finance.
